Diesel Manual Volvo Wagon!

This was posted on Turbobricks. Thought I'd share it here. If I were closer, I'd have myself a second grandpa Volvo wagon.

I owned one last year. It was a beast, but that VW D24T isnt the easiest motor to find parts for. timing belts are a PITA to do, and require all kinds of special tools to do. and NEED to be done. I had a white one with red leather

No joke.

I just browsed the Seattle Craigslist cars section, and the Volvo section seemed endless. I'm lucky if there are four Volvos in my area.

I'm jealous.

I don't doubt parts are hard to find, but it's still a cool beast to work on. Maybe I'm just spoiled by the simplicity of my red block in my current Volvo.

I would take a redblock any day over the d24t. though the economy of the VW engine was good. I towed a damn f650 with it once! Powah!!!

Looking closer I wouldnt touch this one. coolant is low (there is a spec in the factory manual for how large the head cracks can be, because it happens to all of them), missing preheater hose, which means the wax cold start device is probably not serviced either

Good eye. A friend had one with 165K on it and it had low compression and was diabolically difficult to start...he went from that to his 504D wagon whereupon I found MY 504D wagon :)

Anyway the Volvo's engine was shot, everything else was in great shape. It got sent to a pull-a-part lot...

hmm...good to know.

My first Volvo with a n/a red block had a pre-heater hose similar to that. It was such a cheap piece of tubing similar to a dryer duct, but it was effective in getting the engine heated up the winter more quickly compared to when it eventually broke and I removed it.
